Description
Title: A pilot study examining the impact of nurse-led interventions on the health-related quality of life for children with sickle cell disease in Oman
Abstract: Introduction. Sickle cell disease (SCD) typically results in poor health-related quality of life in children (HRQOL). The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of nurse-led interventions on children with SCD’s HRQOL. Methods. Convenient sampling was used to choose a total of 30 samples. The study group received a nurse-led intervention for 10 consecutive weeks and completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) SCD-Module version 3.0. The routine medical care was provided to the control group. The post-test was administered after the 10-week period had passed. Results. Each study group participant had subpar HRQOL scores ( > 0.05) on the pre-test. After the nurse-led intervention, the study group’s HRQOL score significantly improved (p 0.05). Neither the pretest nor the post-test revealed any appreciable differences for the control group. Discussion. Because of this, nurse-led interventions are effective in raising children with SCD’s HRQOL.
