Title: A Complete Review of Drug Repurposing Techniques Against Known COVID-19 Drug Targets
Abstract: Comparing the traditional drug discovery and development process to drug repurposing reveals that it is less expensive and takes less time. The idea of selecting a potent molecule from a library of already-existing molecules or a drug that has already received approval has evolved into a go-to strategy to quicken the discovery of drugs that can prevent COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of this disease that seems to have no cure. It is a brand-new member of the Betacoronavirus genus that shares characteristics with the genome structure and viral pathogenesis of the previously described SAR-CoV. A worldwide pandemic has been caused by the rapid spread of COVID-19 and the emergence of SARS-CoV-2. The development of new drugs to completely contain the disease is challenging, making the cost-effective drug repurposing strategy a much more viable option. Since there are important drug targets for SARS-CoV-2, the current review aims to compile both experimental and computational drug repurposing strategies. The available druggable targets will be discussed along with the strategies. However, frequent viral genome recombination and time-constrained primary analysis, which produce insignificant data, are still two of the biggest obstacles to drug repurposing.
