Abstract: The implementation of creative ideas in the field is crucial for the development of water sustainability and reliance. In contrast to other sectors, the water sector still faces a lot of challenges in terms of innovation despite being a crucial resource. This study looked into various facets of innovation activities in the water sector for Kazakhstan and its neighbors. Also discussed are potential water-related issues that would necessitate increased innovation efforts in the sector. Also highlighted is the COVID-19 global pandemic’s potential impact, which was revealed by a questionnaire survey of various water-related businesses. To investigate the potential impact of a 10-year period on the characteristics of the innovation activities in the water sector, the innovation datasets were divided into three different decades. An analysis of variance yielded a p-value of about 0.014. (less than the significance threshold of 0.05). Our findings support the notion that there were statistically significant variations in innovation over the three decades covered by this study. Additionally, a strong correlation between wastewater handling fees and the quantity of patents was found.  There was a weak correlation between water supply tariffs and patented innovations, with a correlation  oefficient of 0.333, but there was a strong correlation between patents and innovations, with a correlation coefficient of 0.868. According to the questionnaire survey, it was found that COVID-19’s disruption of innovation in terms of  The large water firms have been impacted more than the small water firms by the motivation in water-related innovations. The findings of this study further demonstrate the critical need for increased investment in innovation, particularly among large-scale businesses, in the water sector.
