Title: A Brief Review of the Production, Purification, and Potential Health Applications of Bioactive Peptides from Edible Seeds
Abstract: Edible seeds contribute significantly to meeting important nutritional needs and provide a number of health advantages that enhance human life. Edible seed proteins, their enzymatic hydrolysates, and bioactive peptides (BAPs) have demonstrated and potential abilities to ameliorate a number of chronic disorders through the modulation of activities of several molecular markers, according to prior literature evidence. Researchers from all over the world are very interested in using edible seed-derived proteins and peptides as ingredients to create nutraceuticals and therapeutic functional foods. Enzymatic hydrolysis, gastrointestinal digestion, fermentation, and genetic engineering are the four main processes covered in this review that are used to produce BAPs, along with their purification and characterization. The main goal of this article is to present the most recent information on the antihypertensive, anticancer, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and hypoglycemic activities of edible seed BAPs.
