Title: A Nonlinear Panel ARDL Approach Using Data from Vietnam Examines the Effect of Investment in Tourism Infrastructure Development on Bringing in International Visitors.
Abstract: One of the most important steps in developing a nation’s tourist destinations is investment in the development of tourism infrastructure to make destinations and services more alluring. Using data from Vietnam for the years 1995 to 2019, this study examines the effects of investments in tourism infrastructure components on the draw of foreign tourists. The results of using the nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to analyze panel data reveal that, over the long term, investing in the three sectors that make up tourism infrastructure—the hotel and restaurant sector, transportation and communications infrastructure, and recreational facilities—has a significant and favorable effect on the flow of foreign tourists. It is also discovered that the three elements of the tourism infrastructure have various short-term effects on both the overall market and each significant international visitor market.
