Description

Title: Autophagy and the Pathogenesis of Liver Diseases: The Role of TFEB

Abstract: Lysosomal activity and autophagy are masterly regulated by the transcription factor EB (TFEB). It is known that TFEB subcellular localization and activity at the lysosomal surface are regulated by mTOR-mediated phosphorylation. Recent research has demonstrated that TFEB is essential for physiological functions like lipid metabolism, and dysfunction of TFEB has been linked to the pathogenesis of a number of diseases. TFEB has gained interest as a potential therapeutic target for diseases because of its capacity to enhance disease status in murine models. The regulation of TFEB and its role in the pathogenesis of liver diseases, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, will be discussed in this review (NAFLD).

Keywords: TFEB; autophagy; metabolism; fatty liver disease
