Description
Title: Protein Fibrillation in Congested Environments
Abstract: The effects of protein amyloid fibrils on human health are extensive. In order to simulate the crowded interior of cells or to investigate the mechanisms and pathways of the process, a variety of crowding agents have been used to study fibrillation over the past 20 years. Three classes of crowding agents—synthetic polymers, osmolytes and other small molecules, and globular proteins—are taken into account when tabulating and reviewing these findings. While some crowding agents exhibit certain patterns, the outcomes are highly variable and frequently depend on the precise combination of crowder and fibrillating protein.
