Title: Promising Flavonoids with Chemopreventive Potential: Fisetin and Quercetin
Abstract: Cancer continues to be the leading cause of death globally, despite improvements in healthcare facilities for diagnosis and treatment. Effective strategies are required to combat the cancer threat because prevention is always preferable to cure. Over the past ten or so years, there has been an increase in the use of phytochemicals as adjuvant chemotherapeutic agents in heterogeneous human carcinomas like breast, colon, lung, ovary, and prostate cancers. The well-known plant derivatives known as flavonoids have reportedly been shown to be therapeutically effective phytochemicals against a wide range of illnesses, including cancer, inflammatory disorders (cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorder), and oxidative stress. The current review concentrates on two important flavonols known for their potential pharmacological relevance: quercetin and fisetin. Additionally, efforts have been made to assemble the majority of the relevant empirical studies on the bioactive potential of quercetin and fisetin, particularly in the control of a number of cancer signaling pathways. Further emphasis has been placed on emphasizing the molecular action of quercetin and fisetin in order to explore cancer progression and initiation pathways, which may be useful in developing effective treatment approaches.
