Title: A Quick Review of Ulvan’s Valorization as a Source of Chemicals and Biomaterials and Green Seaweeds
Abstract: This concise review examined the current trends, developments, and value-added biomaterials produced from marine macroalgae resources, particularly green seaweeds and the ulvan polysaccharides that are derived from them for a variety of uses. Due to its distinctive physiochemical properties, lack of exploration, and higher green house gas emissions, ulvan, both in its natural state and in modified forms, has recently attracted a lot of attention for its useful application in a variety of fields. production of seaweed. The unmodified form of ulvan (sulfated polysaccharides) is used in the manufacturing of numerous chemicals, including fuels, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, while its modified form is used in the manufacturing of composites, membranes, and scaffolds, among other things, due to its physicochemical properties. This review focuses on the use of green seaweed and the ulvan polysaccharides it produces to create a variety of chemicals, including fuel, gas, and solvents, as well as value-added biomaterials with different morphologies (e.g., gels, fibers, films, scaffolds, nanomaterials, and composites).
