Title: Honey-Based Templates for Tissue Engineering and Wound Healing
Abstract: Clinical use of honey as a topical wound treatment has increased over the last few decades. This resurgence is backed up by a wealth of in vitro and in vivo evidence showing honey’s beneficial properties, including its ability to debride wounds, kill bacteria, penetrate biofilm, lower wound pH, lessen chronic inflammation, and encourage fibroblast infiltration. These findings demonstrate that honey has a potential application in the area of tissue engineering and regeneration. With varying degrees of success, researchers have added honey to tissue engineering templates such as electrospun meshes, cryogels, and hydrogels. This review describes the current state of the field, identifies obstacles that still need to be resolved, and offers suggestions for future research’s course to create efficient tissue.therapies for regeneration.
