Abstract: Organs-on-a-Chip (OOAC) is a disruptive technology with the potential to alter the speed, cost, and effectiveness of the drug discovery process. It also has the potential to advance our understanding of human biology and enable clinical research in situations where human trials are not practical. But for this technology to be successfully adopted and accepted, more development is required. Technology maturity, more thorough validation of translational and predictive in vivo-like biology, and stricter quality standards requirements for commercial viability are all areas that could use improvement. In this review, we summarized the general consensus regarding the difficulties and performance standards that must be met in order for OOACs to become more widely used over the course of the next five years. We also defined a potential roadmap for the translational development of OOAC technology in the future. We gave a clear overview of the current stage of OOAC commercialization development, including the platforms, supporting technologies, and tools needed for using OOAC devices. their degrees of technological readiness. Using information gathered from OOAC developers and end users, we identified common problems encountered by the community, strategic trends and needs guiding OOAC technology development, and technical bottlenecks already in place that could be resolved through active academic collaborations.
