Description
Title: Extracellular Microenvironment Engineering for Tissue Regeneration
Abstract: The extracellular microenvironment, which surrounds cells and transmits molecular signals, is a highly dynamic network of biophysical and biochemical components. Controls of the extracellular microenvironment are essential for being able to direct cell behavior and tissue regeneration. In this review, we concentrate on the various extracellular microenvironment (ECM) elements, such as extracellular matrix (ECM), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and growth factors (GFs), and we introduce engineering approaches for these elements, which can be used to achieve a higher level of control over cellular activities and behaviors for tissue regeneration. We also examine the engineering techniques used to create artificial extracellular microenvironment components that closely resemble natural ones for better regenerative applications. This review provides an in-depth examination of the state-of-the-art research in extracellular microenvironment engineering and monitoring, which will help in the future development of novel tissue engineering approaches that make use of various extracellular microenvironment components for regenerative medicine.
