Title: Gelatin Methacryloyl Hydrogels for Regeneration of Musculoskeletal Tissue
Abstract: Musculoskeletal conditions place a significant economic and health burden on the world. As cell or drug delivery systems, hydrogels have enormous potential for improving the repair of damaged and injured musculoskeletal tissues. Because of their distinctive physicochemical characteristics, hydrogels are promising platforms for managing cellular processes. Due to its adaptable and advantageous properties, gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel in particular has received extensive research as a promising biomaterial and is frequently used in a variety of biomedical applications. Detailed descriptions of GelMA synthesis, hydrogel design, and applications in regenerative medicine are provided in this review. is offered. After reviewing recent developments in hydrogels more generally, we highlight recent developments in GelMA hydrogels in the developing fields of musculoskeletal drug delivery. These developments involve therapeutic drugs (such as growth factors, antimicrobial molecules, immunomodulatory drugs, and cells), delivery approaches (such as the single-, dual-release system), and material design (e.g., addition of organic or inorganic materials, 3D printing).
