Title: Lung Cancer Staging Using Modern Imaging Modalities: The State of the Art
Abstract: In the entire world, lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death. This scientific article provides an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art information on lung cancer screening, subtyping, imaging, staging, and management of treatment response. Computed tomography is a common imaging technique for lung cancer screening and early diagnosis (CT). It has recently been demonstrated that a dual-energy CT improves the classification of variable pulmonary lesions. To correctly stage lung cancer and avoid needless thoracotomies, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) advises using fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) in conjunction with CT. A radiation-free alternative to FDG PET/CT with comparable diagnostic performance is diffusion MR. FDG PET/CT is a powerful modality that outperforms CT at predicting response to treatment. Radiologists’ abilities are enhanced by current knowledge of lung cancer genomic abnormalities and treatment protocols. For an accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and lung cancer surveillance, radiologic experience must be taken into consideration.
