Description
Title: Potential Biomarkers of the Pathology of Multiple Sclerosis
Abstract: The central nervous system (CNS) is affected by the complex disease known as multiple sclerosis (MS), which is characterized by an intricate and abnormal interaction of immune cells that causes demyelination, inflammation, and neurodegeneration. Clinical subtypes are heterogeneous, making it difficult to diagnose them and difficult to give patients the best care. Biomarkers have been used to evaluate the outcomes of clinical treatments and to streamline the diagnosis and prognosis of MS. Due to the biomarkers’ simplicity, speed, specificity, and reproducibility, research on them has advanced significantly in recent years. Depending on whether they address personal or predictive susceptibility, diagnosis, prognosis, disease activity, or response to treatment in various clinical courses of MS, biomarkers are divided into various categories. The members who have been identified demonstrate a range of MS pathological processes, including neuroaxonal damage, gliosis, demyelination, disability progression, and remyelination, among others. The most promising imaging biomarkers used in clinical practice, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood serum, are the subjects of the current review. It also seeks to clarify the requirements and difficulties that a biomarker must overcome in order to be accepted as a standard in routine clinical practice.
