Title: An Update on Emerging Treatment Methods for Diabetes Mellitus and Related Complications
Abstract: Worldwide, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is rising quickly and accelerating. Over the past three generations, the status of diabetes has changed; whereas previously it was thought to be a minor disease affecting older people, it is now one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in middle-aged and young people. Chronic diseases like Type 1 and Type 2 DM are brought on by functional loss brought on by high blood glucose, insulin sensitivity, and insulin deficiency. Traditional DM therapies, like insulin sensitization and insulin secretion, have unfavorable side effects that discourage patient compliance and result in treatment discontinuation. New methods for measuring glucose and delivering insulin have been developed as a result of the use of nanotechnology in diabetes research, which has the potential to enhance the quality of life for diabetics. In addition to insulin and oral hypoglycemic medications, other therapies, such as gene therapy and cell regeneration, are currently used to control diabetes. The emerging DM treatment approaches and nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems are highlighted in this review.
