Title: The Emerging Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Plant Pathogen Response
Abstract: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), transcripts with more than 200 nucleotides but no ability to code for proteins, are crucial for plant survival in the face of various stresses. They participate in the control of chromatin remodeling, RNA metabolism, and protein modification processes by interacting with molecules like DNA, RNA, and protein. These lncRNAs control transcription and post-transcriptional epigenetic modifications to control the expression of their downstream targets. Their various mechanisms of action and potential roles in biological processes like flowering time, reproductive organ development, and biotic and abiotic stress responses have been revealed by emerging information from computational biology and functional characterization of some of them. Due to the paucity of knowledge in this area, we have primarily concentrated on the role of lncRNAs in biotic stress response in this review. We have talked about the molecular defenses that some well-known lncRNAs have against particular pathogens. Further, we have emphasized the significance of lncRNAs against pathogen responses and the advancement in plant research to develop a better understanding of their functions and molecular mechanisms in light of the fact that fungal, viral, and bacterial diseases are major contributors to the global food crisis.
