Title: Omicron: A Grim Reality Among COVID-19 Literature Review
Abstract: The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) first appeared in Wuhan city in December of that year, and because of its incredibly contagious nature, it quickly spread throughout the world. The MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, as well as the Severe Acute Respiratory Coronavirus-2, are members of the Coronaviridae family. According to reports, COVID-19 infected 344,710,576 people worldwide and killed nearly 5,598,511 people in just two years. The B.1.1.529 strain, later known as Omicron, was designated as a Variant of Concern on November 24, 2021. (VOC). SARS-CoV-2 has continuously undergone an unprecedented series of mutations and evolved to display different traits. These mutations, which mainly affect the spike (S) protein (a site for antibody binding), give the Omicron strain its high infectivity and transmissibility traits. There is still much to be clarified, despite the fact that numerous studies have attempted to comprehend this new challenge in the COVID-19 strains race. The goal of this review was to provide a concise summary of the structural or virologic traits, burden, and epidemiology of the Omicron variant as well as its potential to subvert the immune response.
