Title: Effects on Lipid Level, Obesity, and BMI of Edible Mushrooms as Novel Myco-Therapeutics
Abstract: Obesity is a growing global health problem that is typically identified by a body mass index of more than 30 kg/m2. It causes chronic illnesses like type II diabetes, hypertension, and heart and circulatory problems. Physical exercise and upholding a negative energy balance are common treatments for obesity. However, because a number of other variables affect the overall energy balance, physical activity by itself cannot determine body weight. As an alternative, weight loss can be accomplished through surgery and medication. These alternatives, though, might be pricey or have negative effects. As a result, recent research has focused on dietary factors, such as dietary modifications, nutraceutical products, and functional foods. For instance, ingestible mushrooms are good for human health. The main bioactive components of these mushrooms are polysaccharides (basically -D-glucans), chitinous materials, heteroglycans, proteoglycans, peptic do glycans, alkaloids, lactones, lectins, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, terpenes, phenols, nucleotides, glycoproteins, proteins, amino acids, antimicrobials These bioactive substances have properties that can prevent cancer, prevent obesity, prevent diabetes, protect the heart, and protect the nervous system. The levels of plasma triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and plasma glucose are decreased when edible mushrooms are consumed. To some extent, the anti-obesity properties of polysaccharides from edible mushrooms are due to their ability to inhibit mRNA expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. So, edible mushrooms or their active components might aid in the prevention of obesity and other chronic diseases.
