Title: Isatin and Its Derivatives’ Therapeutic Results Against a Variety of Diseases: New Advances in Drug Discovery
Abstract: Isatin is a heterocyclic, endogenous lead molecule found in humans and various plants. Its chemical name is 1H indole 2, 3-dione. Researchers should pay more attention to the isatin nucleus and its derivatives because of their wide range of pharmacological activities, including those that are anticancer, anti-TB, antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, and anti-HIV. The mild structure of isatins, which includes carbonyl functions at positions 2 and 3, is used by many research chemists to develop biologically active analogues using a variety of strategies. The multitarget profile of isatin analogues is confirmed by literature reviews based on reported preclinical, clinical, and patented details, highlighting their significance in the field of medicinal chemistry as a potent chemothera-peutic agent. This review summarizes recent advances in isatin analogues that could have pharmacological effects between 2016 and 2020. In order to provide a pharmacophoric pattern that may one day help in the design and synthesis of potent and less toxic therapeutics, the structure-activity relationship is also discussed.
