Title: Understanding Rice-Magnaporthe oryzae Interactions: Dynamics of Blast Resistance
Abstract: More than one-third of the world’s population depends on rice as a source of food and nutritional security. The production of rice is subject to a number of biotic and abiotic stresses, one of which, the Magnaporthe oryzae-caused blast disease, has the potential to completely wipe out a crop in extreme circumstances. The importance of rice and blast disease in the current and future global contexts, the genomics and molecular biology of the blast pathogen and rice, and the molecular interaction between rice-M. oryzae interaction governed by various gene interaction models are all covered in the present review. We also went into great detail about the M. oryzae effector and Avr genes, as well as the function of noncoding RNAs in the emergence of disease. Also discussed are rice blast resistance QTLs, resistance (R) genes, and alleles that have been discovered, cloned, and characterized. We also go over how conventional breeding and transgenic techniques can be used to use QTLs and R genes for blast resistance. Finally, we examine the proven cases and potential applications of the most recent genome-editing tools for comprehending and treating rice blast disease.
