Title: Effect of Probiotics on Host-Microbial Crosstalk: A Review of Intervention Methods for Diverse Coronavirus Strain
Abstract: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-caused coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues to cause concern, and new, deadly variants like Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron are constantly emerging. Up to this point, it has been responsible for about 276,436,619 infections and 5,374,744 deaths worldwide. During the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, saving lives has taken precedence, but recovery from infection and returning to normalcy have suffered. The government and front-line medical staff currently prioritize improving general health conditions and immunity with adequate nutrition in order to prevent and treat infections. Given that new viral variants occasionally appear, investigating the role of probiotics and prebiotics in controlling the effects of a viral outbreak could be of great importance. Recent research on the link between gut microbiota and the wide range of clinical COVID-19 disease is the impetus for considering the advantages of probiotics in enhancing human immunity. This review aims to outline the potential role of probiotics and prebiotics in raising the general public’s level of health.
