Title: What is the truth about the autologous graft-versus-tumor effect?
Abstract: Since there is currently no evidence of a graft-versus-tumor effect in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, unlike allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, it is assumed that autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation only relies on high-dose chemotherapy to improve clinical outcomes. However, due to the nonspecific immune response from the infused donor alloreactive immune effector cells in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, recent studies support the existence of an autologous graft-versus-tumor without the negative complications of graft-versus-host disease. The clinical evidence of an autologous graft-versus-tumor effect based on autograft cells that were collected and infused into the host immune system and host immunity recovery following autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is reviewed in this paper.
