Title: Adolescent and Young Adult Prevalence of Bleeding Symptoms in Saudi Arabia’s Capital
Abstract: Background. The prevalence of bleeding disorders varies. While some are uncommon, others can be widespread in both sexes. The majority of bleeding disorders present as a propensity for chronic bleeding or as increased bleeding during trauma or surgical procedures. Bleeding can have minor effects like iron deficiency or severe ones like severe morbidity and mortality. Except for hemophilia A and B, which primarily affects males, bleeding disorders typically affect both sexes. Method. In order to learn more about bleeding symptoms, we polled teenagers and young adults in Riyadh (1901 [49%] boys and 1980 [51%] girls) using a questionnaire. 1849 (47.5%) of them responded “Yes/Positive” to at least one inquiry about the symptoms of bleeding. Results. Epistaxis was the most typical bleeding symptom identified in Phase I of the study (19.7% of the sample population). 525 teenagers who had chosen “Yes/Positive” in response to any of the inquiries about bleeding symptoms participated in a joint survey. Conclusion. In this study, a representative sample of Saudi adolescents and young adults was used to report for the first time the prevalence of bleeding symptoms.
