Title: Number-based persuasion: How do numerical markings on arguments in letters with bad news affect persuasion?
Abstract: When the causes of a poor decision are listed, how much does the text’s ability to persuade change? The evaluation of number marks’ influence on two various language settings is the main goal of this study. These contexts include the start of an incoming list of reasons (also known as the “trigger”) and the introductions to the list’s actual reasons. 265 participants in all participated in the study. The Schematic Explanation Model and the Elaboration Likelihood Model served as the experiment’s organizing pillars. Sanders and others created the text structural expectations theory. Numerical markers in the triggers and lead-ins of a piece of literature have been shown to improve it in a number of ways. It entices readers to think more deeply about the subject matter of the arguments put forward. It promotes retention and compels readers to go further into the arguments, which eventually leads to a more complex assessment. The indicators also increase persuasiveness right away, showing that they have the power to persuade even readers with less previous knowledge. Additionally, the text evaluation’s capacity to assess persuasiveness is harmed by the unequal usage of number marks throughout the procedure. This impact is explained by the Schematic Text Structural Expectations Hypothesis for text processing and assessment.
