Abstract: The GAMET tool, which was designed to aid writers in assessing the numerous mechanical and structural defects that texts may have, as well as their frequency, is presented in this study. The purpose of the study is to introduce the GAMET tool. These kinds of mistakes are common in many types of writing, including academic, professional, and personal writing. Because of the desktop software GAMET, LanguageTool version 3.2 now has a graphical user interface that is simpler and easier to use than before. As a direct result of this, the program is referred to as GAMET. With the help of this user interface, it is possible to run an automated check on writing samples to look for grammatical and structural faults. GAMET may be downloaded for free, is compatible with a wide variety of operating systems, permits the processing of massive documents, and splits errors into numerous subcategories of structural and mechanical defect kinds. All of these features can be found on the GAMET website. Further investigation into the reliability of Language Tool is carried out by means of a hand-coded accuracy and meaningfulness evaluation on writing corpora that include material written in both “the first language” (L1) and “the second language” (L2). This paper investigates the efficacy of Language Tool in duplicating human coding of structural and mechanical mistakes in an L1 corpus. Additionally, correlations between GAMET and human judgments of essay quality are studied. Language Tool’s ability to correctly duplicate human coding of structural and mechanical mistakes in a corpus of second languages is another aspect of this research that is being investigated. According to the findings of the research, applying Language Tool to identify errors in written text may be an activity that is worth pursuing as an option. Despite the great degree of accuracy it possesses, Language Tool does, on sometimes, get things wrong, notably when it comes to punctuation issues. Despite the fact that this is the case, there may be remarkable parallels between the findings of Language Tool and human judgments of writing difficulties relating to mechanics, grammar, and other areas. In general, the data demonstrate that Language Tool accurately identifies the structural and mechanical faults that are made by authors, despite the fact that it does not detect every problem.
