Title: Increased Self-Cleaning Applications and High Capacity of Organic Molecules by Adding Polar Groups to Porous Aromatic Frameworks

Abstract: Effective oil/water separation has drawn a lot of attention due to the frequent leakage of organic solvents and oil. Conventional porous materials, on the other hand, have nonpolar structural constituents that exhibit a weak affinity for polar organic molecules. Here, orthoposition and preposition C=O groups in the PAF linkers were used to create two different polarities of super hydrophobic porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs). Porous and extremely hydrophobic properties of PAFs were made possible by the conjugated structure created by numerous alkynyl and benzene ring structures. After the PAF solids were successfully prepared, PAF powders were applied to polyester fabrics using a straightforward dip-coating technique, giving the finished polyester fabrics excellent stability, super hydrophobicity, and porosity. Two super hydrophobic flexible fabrics had oil/water separation efficiencies of over 90% for various organic solvents thanks to their distinctive structural design. For the polar oils, Polar LNU-26 PAF demonstrated better separation performance. This work pioneers the use of polar groups as structural building blocks for the creation of porous networks, which has major implications for the design of cutting-edge oil/water separation materials.
