Title: Inhibition of High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders by Akkermansia Muciniphila in Beagles
Abstract: One of the most common chronic diseases in both people and their pet animals is obesity, which is frequently accompanied by a number of metabolic disorders. The commensal gut bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila (A. muciniphila) is well-known for treating inflammation and metabolic disorders. In this study, we isolated the A. muciniphila AKK2 strain from interferon-inducible protein 204/(IFI204) mice’s feces and further examined its anti-obesity effects in C57BL/6J mice and beagles fed a high-fat diet (HFD). The outcomes demonstrated that it successfully restrained weight gain. The Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio in beagles is increased by A. muciniphila AKK2, according to microbiome analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Additionally, we created microcapsules containing A. muciniphila AKK2; tolerance tests revealed that the encapsulation maintained high viability and stability in an aerobic environment and accurately replicated the secretion of gastrointestinal fluids. Overall, this study broadens the range of uses for A. muciniphila in the fight against obesity.
