Description

Title: The sonoluminescence spectrum of [BEPip][NTf2] at 20 kHz under argon during the first few seconds of sonolysis

Abstract: Monitoring of sonoluminescence (SL) spectra in the first tens of seconds of son lysis was required in light of recent studies on the zoochemical degradation of butyl ethyl piperidinium bus-(trifluoromethyl sulfonyl)imide ([BE Pip][NTf2]), in order to better characterize the formed plasma and to question the correlation of the SL spectra with the viscosity. This paper studies an extremely dry [Bopp][NTf2] ionic liquid (IL) and a liquid that is saturated with water. In both situations, IL deterioration can be seen as soon as SL emission starts to occur. Although other factors, like the presence of water, can also be important, it is confirmed that the initial evolution of the SL intensity is closely related to the liquid viscosity that affects the number of bubbles. More intense SL and quicker degradation can be seen in the water-saturated IL. In addition to the anticipated bands, new emission bands are found and are attributed to the water-saturated ionic liquid’s preferred S2 B-X emission.
