Title: A Focus on Antibiotics: Development of Alternative Methods to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance
Abstract: Antibiotic resistance, or antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from a broader perspective, is still evolving and spreading internationally. Infectious diseases have gotten harder, sometimes impossible, to treat as a result, which has increased morbidity and mortality. Despite the failure of conventional, traditional antimicrobial therapy, no new class of antibiotics has been developed in the last 20 years. As a result, several cutting-edge alternate tactics to combat these infectious microorganisms with (multi-) drug resistance have been discovered. This review’s objective is to compile and evaluate the methods being used or suggested as potential substitutes for conventional antibiotics. Combination therapy, methods that target the enzymes or proteins that cause antimicrobial resistance, resistant bacteria, drug delivery systems, physicochemical approaches, and unconventional methods, such as the CRISPR-Cas system, are some of these strategies. These alternative approaches might alter how multi-drug resistant pathogens are handled in human clinical settings.
