Abstract: The creation of new bactericidal materials was required due to the serious clinical issues caused by bacterial strains resistant to antimicrobial treatments like antibiotics. Recently, new antibacterial substances known as “nanoantibiotics” have been found to be nanostructures with particle sizes ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers. In numerous studies, it has been demonstrated that nanomaterials have stronger antibacterial effects on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Examples of nanoparticle applications in the biomedical fields include antibacterial nanofilms for medical implants, restorative substances to prevent bacterial harm, and antibacterial vaccinations to control bacterial infections. Since these materials offer disrupted antibacterial effects, including better biocompatibility, in contrast to minor molecular antimicrobial systems, which have short-term functions and are poisonous, the development of novel nanostructures, such as nanocrystals and nanostructured materials, is an exciting step in alternative efforts to manage microorganisms. The oxidative-reductive phenomenon, reactive ionic metals, and reactive oxygen species are among the scientific hypotheses for the mechanism of action of nanoparticles (NPs), despite the fact that this is unknown (ROS). Bacterial cells have a hard time developing resistance to nanoparticles because antibacterial resistance requires numerous synchronized gene transformations in the same bacterial cell. Nanomaterials are therefore viewed as cutting-edge problem-solving tools in the fields of medicine and allied health science. Based on their size, nature, etc., the current review emphasizes the significance of nanoparticles and various nanosized materials as antimicrobial agents.
