Title: Synthesis, biological testing, and molecular docking studies of new urea derivatives as potential antimicrobial agents

Abstract: The design, synthesis, and spectral analysis of a number of novel urea derivatives with aryl moieties as potential antimicrobial agents included 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, and LCMS. Five bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus) and two fungi strains were used to screen all newly synthesized substances in vitro (Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans). The levels of interaction between these urea derivatives were found to be variable. The fact that many of these molecules showed promising growth inhibition against Acinetobacter baumannii is very significant. To our great joy, the adamantyl urea adduct 3l in particular showed remarkable growth inhibition (94.5%) against Acinetobacter baumannii. In response to this finding, molecular docking studies were carried out to clarify the mechanisms of the most effective compounds’ binding interactions, as described in this article.
