Title: Oddities diagnosing oskrzelowej astmy in people in the post-senile age group
Abstract: A common disease among elderly people is asthma. In subjects over 65, the prevalence of asthma ranges from 6.5 to 17%. The typical symptoms of asthma are used to make the diagnosis, which is then supported by data from physical exams and laboratory tests. In older people, respiratory symptoms are less distinct. Additionally, polypragmatism, underreporting of symptoms, co-morbidities, and cognitive impairment complicate the clinical manifestations of asthma. Additionally, elderly patients occasionally are unable to complete pulmonary function tests. Therefore, it can be challenging to distinguish between asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in this patient population. Due to the challenges in making a differential diagnosis of asthma in older adults, the disease in the elderly is frequently misdiagnosed and given insufficient care.
