Title: Otyo an astma oskrzelowa: Is there an obtrusive phenotype of astms?
Abstract: Obesity and asthma have a significant impact on public health, and both have become more common in recent years. The idea that obesity is a standalone risk factor for asthma is supported by a large number of international cross-sectional and prospective studies conducted in adults, adolescents, and children. Human asthma and obesity associations lack a well-established pathogenetic basis. Obesity may affect airway hyperresponsiveness and is capable of lowering pulmonary compliance, lung volumes, and the diameter of peripheral respiratory airways. Obese people have more adipose tissue, which causes a systemic inflammatory state that increases the levels of several pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and adipokines in the serum. Although human studies are inconclusive, the proinflammatory adipokines (leptin, resistin) and antiinflammatory adipokines (adiponectin) may be causally associated with asthma. Patients with obesity who have asthma frequently exhibit more severe asthma and relative corticosteroid resistance. According to some studies, obese asthma patients who lose weight may see improvements in their condition. Recent research indicates that obese asthma patients may represent a unique phenotype of the disease.
