Description
Title: Scaphoid syndrome of fatigue
Abstract: An inflammatory condition with an unknown cause is sarcoidosis. Non-caseating granulomas are most frequently formed in the intrathoracic lymph nodes and lung parenchyma, but extrapulmonary involvement and a variety of disease-related non-respiratory signs and symptoms can complicate the clinical course and picture. Patients with sarcoidosis may also experience a wide range of symptoms with unknown or ambiguous causes. One of these symptoms, fatigue, is reported by most patients with active sarcoidosis, but also by a smaller percentage of patients with inactive sarcoidosis or even those in complete clinical and radiological remission, according to some authors. As a result, the phrase fatigue syndrome is frequently used to describe this medical issue. It is difficult to define fatigue syndrome in sarcoidosis, but validated questionnaires are typically used to identify the syndrome. The most recent information in the field was presented in this review, along with a description of the various difficulties this syndrome presents.
