Title: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the thyroid gland
Abstract: Age raises the risk of thyroid disorders and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A common systemic condition linked to chronic inflammation is COPD. Systemic inflammation is linked to a number of endocrinological disorders, including thyroid gland diseases. According to epidemiological research, thyroid disorders are more common in COPD patients. Thyroid gland diseases are not on the widely acknowledged list of COPD comorbidities, and these associations have not been thoroughly studied. They could significantly lower COPD patients’ quality of life. Due to the symptoms of the index disease masking many signs, the diagnosis may unfortunately be challenging. Understanding the link between COPD and disorders of the thyroid gland may help with patient care. In this review, we make an effort to update the existing literature on the connections between COPD and thyroid disorders.
