Title: breathing network Diaphragm’s multiple functions: a review
Abstract: The main muscle responsible for active inspiration is the diaphragm, which also distinguishes between the thoracic and abdominal cavities anatomically. However, the diaphragm muscle, like other bones, muscles, and organs in the human body, serves multiple purposes and has numerous anatomical connections throughout the body, creating what is known as a “network of breathing.” As it stabilizes the lumbar spine during loading tasks, it is crucial for postural control in addition to respiratory function. Additionally, it is essential for the vascular and lymphatic systems as well as the gastroesophageal functions of swallowing, vomiting, and forming the barrier against gastroesophageal reflux. In this essay, we lay out in great detail the anatomy and embryology of the diaphragm in an effort to demonstrate how it functions as both a vital hub for the exchange of information coming from various parts of the body and a source of information in and of itself. All of the study’s breathing-related functions are covered as well.
