Title: pulmonary aspergillosis diagnosis and treatment advancements

Abstract: Depending on the immune system or pulmonary structure of the host, the ubiquitous mold Aspergillus can cause a number of allergic and infectious diseases. Patients who have severe immunodeficiencies are more likely to develop invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. Growing numbers of patients with immune system impairments related to the treatment of cancer, organ transplantation, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, as well as critically ill patients, have dramatically increased the significance of this infection. The mortality rates related to this infection have decreased thanks to the development of new noninvasive tests and more potent, well-tolerated antifungal medications. Patients with chronic lung disease or mild immunodeficiency are described as having the locally invasive disease known as chronic pulmonary aspergillosis. A more thorough sub-classification of this entity was recently offered by the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, allowing for an easy method of diagnosis and treatment. Patients with atopy, asthma, or cystic fibrosis are more likely to develop allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, a hypersensitivity reaction to Aspergillus antigens. This review offers an update on the major manifestations of Aspergillus lung disease’s evolving epidemiology, risk factors, and clinical manifestations that should cause the clinician to take these conditions into consideration. Additionally, it covers developments in the treatment of these conditions as well as the role of noninvasive tests in the diagnosis of lung diseases linked to Aspergillus.
