Title: Truths, myths, and theories about COVID-19, smoking, obesity, sex, and getting older
Abstract: The first infections by a novel coronavirus were reported in early December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in Hubei Province, China. Since that time, SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) has been spreading to new cities and nations, becoming a major global epidemiological concern and rapidly acquiring the status of a pandemic. There are many known risk factors for both disease severity and mortality. Old age, male sex, smoking, and obesity are a few of these. The significance of these factors in the pathobiology and clinical landscape of Coronavirus Disease 2019 is highlighted in this succinct narrative review (COVID-19). We paid particular attention to their important contribution to disease severity and mortality. Nevertheless, despite extensive research, the majority of the presented pieces of evidence are tenuous and require additional confirmation.
