Title: A practitioner’s guide to the potential advantages and risks of e-cigarette use, as well as the current situation in Poland
Abstract: Over the past few years, the use of electronic cigarettes has dramatically increased. A medical professional may face difficulties given the rapid changes in knowledge regarding their safety. This review’s objective is to summarize the most recent findings and substantiate claims regarding the effects of e-cigarettes on health, including in light of the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Doctors who treat patients who smoke traditional cigarettes can benefit greatly from being aware of the advantages of e-cigarettes. However, it’s important to be aware of the risks associated with using electronic cigarettes when it’s not medically necessary. Despite the promotion of e-cigarettes as a risk-free substitute for conventional cigarettes, this product also has a detrimental effect on health. Patients with certain conditions, such as hypertension and asthma, as well as smokers who want to reduce the harmful effects of passive smoking on their environment, can benefit from switching from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes, according to well-documented studies. Additionally, it might be helpful for patients who want to permanently kick their nicotine addiction, particularly if they have tried and failed to stop smoking before with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) monotherapy. It is crucial for professionals to stay informed because electronic cigarettes are a rapidly evolving technology and a cutting-edge version of a well-known addiction.
