Title: Vietnamese Businesses’ Total Factor Productivity Growth by Sector and Region: Evidence from Panel Data Analysis
Abstract: The growth of total factors of production (TFPG) is a crucial metric for assessing the enterprise development model. The goal of this study is to take into account the disparity between TFPG and enterprises’ revenue distribution across sectors and geographic areas in Vietnam. The analysis of panel data from 2005 to 2018 reveals that increased capital, particularly in the Red River Delta and non-state enterprise sectors, is the primary cause of the expansion of Vietnamese businesses. During the five years from 2014 to 2018, it was discovered that total factor productivity (TFP) existed in the non-state and inward foreign investment sectors. In contrast, during the same time period, the state-owned enterprise sector experienced a sharp decline. The Mekong River Delta, the Southeast, and the Northern Midlands and Mountain regions all saw significant increases in TFP, whereas there was a clear downward trend in the Central Highlands and the Cetral Highlands. As a result, the findings of this study serve as a foundation for recommendations for an appropriate policy mix that aids in enhancing the performance of businesses across various industries and geographic areas in Vietnam.
