Title: A Two-Stage DEA Model to Assess Iberian Bank Performance
Abstract: The two objectives of this paper are to evaluate the 58 Iberian banks’ performance and investigate the connection between that performance and the banks’ Intellectual Capital (IC) efficiency in the post-crisis period. The authors are aware that there is a gap in the literature when it comes to examining the connection between the global performance of banks and IC efficiency. The Data Envelopment Analysis model was initially used to gauge the effectiveness of Iberian banks and assign them a performance ranking. Digital information was gathered, specifically using the Bank scope database made available by Bureau van Dijk. According to the findings, banks can significantly boost their efficiency by improving their resource management procedures. The relationship between the effectiveness of the IC and the scores obtained in the first stage was then deduced using fractional regressions. The findings imply that the effectiveness of Iberian banks’ human capital plays a major role in determining their performance globally. Finally, this study emphasizes how crucial IC measurement is in helping bank managers make decisions that are more effective.
