Abstract: The activities of the entrepreneur are frequently the focus of entrepreneurship research. Although individuals engage in entrepreneurship, the institutional environment determines the extent to which individuals are entrepreneurial and the paths that their entrepreneurial actions take. Different economies have different levels of entrepreneurship. Following a discussion of the institutional factors that support entrepreneurship, a discussion of the ways in which economic models represent the economy follows, highlighting the various policy implications for entrepreneurship that result from various assumptions about the state of the economy.
