Title: China’s Impact on the Global Energy-Growth Nexus: Financial Development and CO2 Emissions as a Source of Spillover Evidence
Abstract: By examining the knock-on effects of financial development and CO2 emissions, this paper seeks to add to the body of literature on how China’s policies have affected the global energy-growth nexus. On annual series data from 1977 to 2016, an autoregressive distributed lag approach was used. In addition to a global model, four regional models for the world were also created. The findings support the conventional feedback hypothesis both in the short- and long-term. The findings also confirm that China’s financial progress and CO2 emissions increase global energy consumption. Heterogeneous results were seen for the four world regions. Overall, China’s economic growth and CO2 emissions have varied global effects of varying intensities. As a result, no nation should be unconcerned by China’s policies, and groups in Europe, Central Asia, and the Asia-Pacific region should be encouraged to pursue independence.
