Title: Effects of Ethnocentrism on Consumer Behavior During the COVID-19 Epidemic
Abstract: Everyone’s routine daily activities have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has also caused psychiatric disorders and altered consumer preferences. The agri-food industry has undergone significant change, and during the lockdown, Italian consumers changed their purchasing patterns in response to the fear and uncertainty brought on by the virus’s spread. An online survey of 286 Italian consumers was carried out in order to determine the primary effects of the shock experienced during the time and to determine which factors had an impact on purchasing decisions. The findings indicate that ethnocentrism was the factor that significantly affected consumers’ behavior during the lockdown period and that consumers will continue to favor national agri-food products once the pandemic is over, resulting in a significant shift in their eating habits.
