Title: Impact of Macroeconomic Policy and Regulation on the Use of Mobile Money
Abstract: This study looks at how the macroeconomic environment and regulatory framework affect the use of mobile money. In order to specifically examine the impact of important macroeconomic variables and the mobile money tax on the use of mobile money in Uganda, we develop an autoregressive distributed lag model. We discover that, in the short term, mobile money usage in Uganda is positively impacted by inflation while negatively impacted by financial innovation, exchange rate, interest rates, and mobile money tax using monthly data spanning the period March 2009 to September 2020. Long-term economic growth, inflation, and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis all have a positive impact on the use of mobile money, while the balances of mobile money users, interest rates, exchange rates, financial innovation, and mobile money taxes have a negative impact.
