Title: Equations for Supply and Demand that are Sentiment-Augmented for the Dry Bulk Shipping Market
Abstract: We use a three-stage least squares methodology to present empirical estimates of the supply and demand curves for the ocean-going dry bulk sector for the first time in the literature. Additionally, we add sentiment to these functions, which seems to have a positive and significant effect on supply. This supports the idea that shipowners’ perspectives on the market will undoubtedly affect how they decide to buy vessels or bring them out of layup. Our findings demonstrate that future expectations influence current pricing, albeit indirectly, due to their effects on the supply side. Our findings add to the body of research on behavioral economics and offer significant new information to professionals and students alike.
