Title: Does Fiscal Decentralization Promote Growth? A Cross-Country Study of Developing Nations from 1990 to 2014
Abstract: The relationship between efficiency and the devolution of fiscal authority has been the subject of intense debate among academics for many years. The significance of institutions and other institutional settings in fiscal decentralization has, however, been overlooked in a number of studies. By reviewing the relationship between fiscal decentralization and growth in terms of institutional quality in 24 developing nations from 1990 to 2014, this study adds to the body of literature. It is demonstrated that growth is influenced by the degree of fiscal authority and the interaction between it and institutions by means of estimators for fixed effects (FE), random effects (RE), and the system generalized method of moments (GMM). Increasing coherence in this case has a negative impact on growth in nations with weak governance, a high risk of corruption, and nondemocratic governments. Shared rule, on the other hand, promotes growth by raising the level of law and order and the standard of bureaucracy.
