Title: The Internal Process of a Person’s Work Engagement, Active Learning, and Adaptive Performance

Abstract: In three Indonesian digital technology-based companies, this paper aims to investigate the mechanism connecting a person’s internal processes, work engagement, active learning, and adaptive performance. The study employs a combination of methodologies. The first study employed a quantitative research methodology, and the data was derived from a survey of 185 employees. Structural Equation Modeling was then used to analyze the survey data. In the second study, semi-structured interviews with 17 managers were used to collect data as part of a qualitative research methodology. Our quantitative research revealed that the relationship between self-efficacy and a growth mindset toward active learning is fully mediated by work engagement. Active learning was also found to have a partial mediating effect between work engagement and adaptive performance. According to our review of the literature, previous studies on the connection between a growth mindset and job engagement have produced a mixed bag of results. Our research adds to the body of knowledge by demonstrating the connection between a growth mindset and job engagement. The qualitative findings, however, highlighted the existence of two mechanisms that underlie each person’s capacity for adaptive behavior (i.e., work engagement and active learning). The process of active learning also encourages the continuous acquisition of new knowledge, which results in new innovation within an organization.
