Description
Title: An empirical investigation of FDI and institutions in BRIC and CIVETS nations
Abstract: In order to draw in more foreign investors and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, a number of emerging market nations have recently moved forward with market-oriented strategies, deregulation, and reforms. The current study compares two groups of rapidly developing emerging nations, BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) and CIVETS, in order to empirically investigate the role of governance in attracting FDI (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa). The study includes an analysis of panel data using the most recent secondary data, which spans the years 2002 to 2019. Extensive and presented empirical models are used. According to the findings, FDI inflows into BRICS are attracted by the rule of law, good regulation, political stability, and lack of violence, while FDI inflows into CIVETS are absorbed by their ability to combat corruption, maintain political stability, abstain from violence, have good regulation, and have effective governments. The paper adds to the body of knowledge because it is the first to look into the role of governance in attracting FDI in BRIC and CIVETS economies while taking other FDI determinants into account. To our knowledge, it is the first paper to examine and contrast institutional determinants of FDI and emerging country subgroups.
